The roads and paths of Washington County are dotted with runners nearly every weekend this summer, all of whom are intent on crossing the finish line.
Excitement is building for the unique blend of races here, which continue into October; there are enough varying lengths and terrain that runners (and walkers!) can select which race fits their style. I think Warrior Dash in all its muddy glory is just my speed, er, distance.
Here’s a rundown of upcoming events:
Family Fun Run
August 27, 2011
This 5K run/walk begins and ends at Griffith Park in Beaverton, just in time for the 10 a.m. Beaverton Celebration parade, followed by the Beaverton Old Town Festival. More info.
Labor Day 5K
September 5, 2011
This 5K run begins and ends at Cook Park in Tigard. With a start time of 8 a.m., participants could be drinking the beer from Max’s Fanno Creek Brewpub and the rootbeer by 10 a.m.! Registration before September 3 is just $20 per person. More info.
September 10 & 11, 2011
Though this race is a mere 3.18 miles, don’t let the short distance fool you; the mud pits and barbed wire, log roll and fire element on the hilly grounds of Horning’s Hideout in North Plains make this a mucky run of epic proportions. The finish line festival includes live music and a beer garden. Good times. More info.
Forest Grove 5K
September 17, 2011
This annual jaunt, presented by the Forest Grove Lions Club and Pacific University, is a 5K run & walk “for sight,” as funds raised go toward scholarships for optometry students at Pacific, as well as glasses for those in need. This fun run kicks off at 9 a.m. Register by Sept. 10th to get the discounted rate. More info.
October 22, 2011
This 5K run/walk kicks off the day’s festivities at Tualatin Commons Lake, and is billed as “flat and fun”! More info.
