Still Savoring Summer: Outings

Posted on: September 4th, 2012 by Angie Marsh No Comments

As the days shorten and the temperature lingers at the 80-degree mark here in Oregon’s Washington County, I long for an extended summer–and intend to make one. How so? By scouring our event calendar for early September open-air happenings to mark on my own calendar.

I’m in luck. The final “Neighbors Night” at Cooper Mountain Vineyards wraps up its summer schedule on Friday, Sept. 7th, with free live music by Tim Uecker, a guitarist and singer/songwriter who blends folk, rock and jazz. This lawn concert is from 5 to 8 p.m., and I’ll bring a picnic, some friends and their dog (who are also allowed!).

An outdoor movie is always a memorable summer event.

Hopefully I’ll have time to ditch the dog and continue on to “Pix on the Plaza” in downtown Hillsboro that same night, Sept. 7th, when the movie Grease will be showing at dusk for free. With popcorn, hot dogs and candy for sale, I’ll again enjoy eating on a blanket while watching some entertainment.

The next day I’m signed up for the Warrior Dash race, which is returning for a third year to Horning’s Hideout in North Plains Sept. 8-9. After recovering from jumping over fire and rolling over logs, I’ll rest up for the next event: a Feast on the Farm dinner at Sungold Farm in Forest Grove on Sunday, Sept. 9. I’ll splurge for a ticket to this white tablecloth dinner highlighting local bounty.

I’ll end my week of late summer fun by heading to the Bridgeport Village Girls’ Night Out event Thursday, Sept. 13. From 5 to 8 p.m., there will be special “Passports to Style” to use for discounts at more than 40 stores and restaurants. Urban Outfitters and Finnegan’s Village Toys, here I come!
