Holiday Goodies at Area Bakeries

December 8th, 2011 by Angie Marsh

If you enjoy the sweets of the holiday season as much as I do, you’re in luck. Area bakeries are mixing eggnog into cupcakes; decorating cakes with reindeer fondant; and offering the reliable standby, the gingerbread man–among many other treats. Seasons eatings!

Beaverton Bakery

From fruitcake to breads to cookies to donuts, holidays are a specialty at this iconic local bakery. Goods are made from scratch and can be custom-ordered. So if it’s a snowman cake in a certain flavor with a tasty filling you’re looking for, check out the samples of holiday cakes, check out photos of more than 40, including Frosty. Or start a new dessert tradition with one of their special holiday offerings: rum bundt cake, Hawaiian fruitcake, German stollen coffeecake, holiday petit decorated almond cakes, and much, much more.

bliss Bake Shop

Known for made-from-scratch cupcakes, bliss is expanding the cupcakes’ holiday flavors this season to include: Gingerbread, White chocolate Cranberry, Eggnog and Peppermint. Cupcakes are baked each day with premium ingredients for the rich flavors. Locally owned and operated in the Bethany neighborhood of Portland, bliss also offers cakes, cookies and ice cream.

The Dessert Tray

This Beaverton scratch bakery is cooking up gingerbread and spice cake for the holidays. There are fudge brownies, seasonal brownies frosted in delicious flavored buttercreams and a variety of standard–yet delectable–dessert bars. There are dessert bar trays for holiday get-togethers as well. And peruse the store for festive decorated shortbread cookies as well, and the newly-added menu item: the Italian favorite, Illy Coffee and Espresso.

And really, the holidays could use more of their bakery’s flare, such as chocolate rum mousse, raspberry fudge cake (with local raspberries!), and New York-style cheesecake.
To place a special order–and order up that tasty cake so it’s ready right on the day you need it–please provide a three-day advance notice.

Rose’s Restaurant and Bakery

The dessert is a highlight at this restaurant and bakery in Sherwood, particularly during the holidays. Choose from classic rum balls, or a slice of banana Bavarian whip cream cake or Vienna Mocha Torte. Or go big with a giant cinnamon roll, Texas donut or giant Éclair.

Sweetest Thing Cupcakes

Located at Bridgeport Village, this bakery offers a taste of the holidays in each cupcake with current seasonal flavors, including: gingerbread, snickerdoodle, peppermint truffle, lemon coconut and more. The gluten-free flavors include some you won’t find elsewhere: peppermint candy cane, lemon drop, banana cheesecake, cookie monster and kookoo for coconut. They’re open every day, and offer deals on their Facebook page.
