Sports + Pumpkins = Fall Fun in Washington County

Sunny fall Saturdays in Washington County were made for knocking off two fun items from your family’s to-do list: “game” and “pumpkin patch.”

We have several photos from over the years of our son in his fall baseball uniform surrounded by bright orange pumpkins at Lakeview Farms in North Plains.  Playing a late morning game at West Union School made for a perfect opportunity to hop down the road right after the game and enjoy this fall ritual.

If you find yourself at a youth soccer, baseball or football game this weekend and still need to get your pumpkins, you’ll be thankful for Washington County’s many options.

For those who have games at Cook Park in Tigard, or in Sherwood, Wilsonville or Tualatin, southern Washington County has several beautiful and well-known pumpkin patches to visit, such as Baggenstos Farm in Sherwood (pictured here), and Lee Farms in Tualatin.

If your weekend games bring you to Sunset Park, Alpenrose, Howard M. Terpenning Complex, Portland Community College (PCC) at Rock Creek, or Hillsboro or Liberty High Schools, head west on Highway 26 and end up awash in autumn within 30 minutes or less. Lakeview Farms in North Plains and Plumper Pumpkin Patch in Portland are great Washington County options.

You could also try the famous Roloff Farm pumpkin patch, which tends to get crowded with fans of their television show “Little People, Big World,” which airs on the TLC cable network.  Roloff Farm is in Helvetia, about three miles from Highway 26 and the Helvetia Road exit.

October might be the busiest month for sports families, but while you’re out for your kids’ games, stack up the soccer balls and football cleats and make way for some pumpkins and hay bales.  Everyone’s a winner when you can easily pack sports and harvest activities into one day.
