Perhaps a day on the disc golf green is your pace. If so, there’s a new course that has it all.

Horning’s Fishing and Picnic Hideout celebrated the grand opening of its newest 18-hole, championship disc golf course in late 2009, which is sure to be one of the most challenging courses in the region. The opening marks the third 18-hole disc golf course to open at Horning’s Hideout.

Built as a Pro Championship “Gold Tee” course (Gold Tee is the top rating, as certified by the Professional Disc Golf Association), Meadow Ridge is a challenging 7,035-foot course  that winds through trees, hills and fields. Also open are Canyon, a “Blue Tee” course, and Highland, a short-throw, “Red Tee” course.

So warm up your arm and throwing discs and head out to North Plains for a day of disc golfing fun. While you’re there, be sure to also explore the serene picnic setting and the paddle boating, fishing and camping available at Horning’s Hideout.

We had a wonderful turnout, beautiful weather. Almost 300 people came up for the day, as far south as Eugene and as far north as Seattle. We served burgers to almost everyone who wanted one, a total of 120. About a third of the people had not been to Hornings before, and all seemed to love it. Included were many families, with lots of kids learning the sport of Disc Golf. We are really starting to see a lot more families with kids enjoying the sport, it’s great to see how the sport is growing before our eyes.

Everyone raved not only about the course layouts, but also about the concrete tee pads on both Meadow Ridge and Canyon courses and the signage on the Meadow Ridge course. Everyone thought both the tee pads and the signage was the best they had ever seen, with the pads being large and textured for no slip and the signs being so detailed and of high quality. Both the signage and the concrete tee pads were paid for by the WVCA tourism grant, to everyones appreciation. Everyone was very excited to know that the signs would also be going up on both the Canyon course and the Highland course. Our thanks to WVCA for helping to make such a wonderful day!!

    Thanks, Bob Horning

Congratulations on a successful event, Bob! It’s exciting to have a pro-championship disc golf course here in Washington County, and we are equally as thrilled to partner with Horning’s Hideout to make it a reality.
